Hebrews 1: 1-14

In our last message, we began our new series in Hebrews, grappling with the historical context of the letter. In this one, we turn to chapter one.

The letter begins with a stunning and exalted picture of Jesus. The pastor tells us that Jesus is the last, loudest, and ultimate Word that God speaks. In other words, Jesus is the most relevant and powerful Word that God desires to speak into every situation we face.

How does God desire to speak the name of Jesus into your situation today? How does God desire to reveal the supremacy of Jesus in whatever you’re currently stewarding?

Hebrews begins with this breathtaking portrayal of Jesus’ greatness. The pastor shows his readers that Jesus stands before all things, in the midst of all things, and at the end of all things.

For a people facing suffering and persecution, this was meant to be a profound source of comfort. The pastor calls them to fix their eyes on Jesus. He reminds them that Christ stood long before Nero ever existed—and Christ will continue to stand long after Nero is gone.

And this same Christ, who is before all things and at the end of all things, is also walking with us in the midst of all things.

Whatever you’re carrying into this week, our prayer is that you would see again the greatness and supremacy of Jesus—and know that He is with you in the midst of it.
