Matthew 11:2-11

We look at a part of John’s story and consider his surprising doubts. In Matthew 11:2-11, John finds himself in prison, alone and facing possible execution. In his isolation, questions begin to bubble up: Is Jesus really who I thought he was? Should I/we be looking elsewhere for hope? Have I made a terrible mistake?

Some of us have faced those kinds of unsettling thoughts as well. We aren’t trying to abandon Jesus. But we never thought we’d end up in a situation like the one we’re in, and it’s getting harder to beat back the misgivings. What do we do when doubts take root? How does God view our doubts – and us in the midst of them? If “without faith, it is impossible to please God,” are we doomed? Absolutely not.
