There is a new kingdom coming – a place where death and disorder are no more, and where Jesus the King rules with a justice that brings peace. No more fear, no more anxiety, no more suffering. Where everything is as it should be.
This is what we long for. But how do we get there? This week we will be looking at John 3:1-8, where Nicodemus, a prominent Pharisee and Jewish leader, meets with Jesus to talk about the kingdom of God. And the conversation quickly takes an unexpected turn: Jesus starts talking strangely about needing to be “born again” to enter this new kingdom God is bringing about. It becomes clear that this kingdom is open to all, but only a few find their way in. For this kingdom requires a new birth by “water and the Spirit.”
