This Sunday we will be examining the third of Jesus’ “I am…” statements: “I am the door of the sheep.” In John 10 Jesus uses an illustration of a sheep-pen to reveal aspects of his identity and ministry, including being both the “good shepherd” and the “door (or gate)”. Being “the door” is a strong claim, which places Jesus right at the center of access to God and his people. Jesus himself is clear: he is not a door, but the door. Do you want life eternal? There’s only one way there – but that’s not bad news. It’s so, so good: because Jesus is the only one you can trust to lead you on the one true path of life.
