In this message we take a bit of a left turn in our series on the Holy Spirit. Pastor Daniel explores with us the theme of blasphemy. In particular, what is the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit?
In Matthew 12:31-32, Jesus says,
“Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.”
Jesus words are mysterious and ominous. Quite a few Christians have expressed anxiety about unwittingly committing the unpardonable sin. Many Christians have approached these two verses with the assumption that Jesus has withheld clarity on what actually is the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. One of the questions that we explore in this message is if Jesus would make such a warning? Would he give such a grave warning while intentionally withholding clarity on what this particular sin is and means?
