Isaiah 64: 1-9

During these weeks of Advent, we are reflecting on scriptures from the lectionary with Christians from around the world. The Bible passage for Sunday is Isaiah 64:1-9 – a challenging word with which to begin. The people of God had been in a difficult season – one in which God had not intervened in the way they had hoped. The prophet is frustrated and cries out for the LORD to reveal himself to friend and foe, as he did in times of old. He is confident that God will come to the aid of those who do right, who remember his ways. But he recognizes that this is a problem: The people of God have not been faithful. What is the basis for hope in such circumstances? That is what we’re going to unpack together.
