Mark 4:1-20

Pastor Ben opens for us Jesus' Parable of the Sower—a story that is familiar to many of us, yet one that continues to speak with depth and relevance.

While it begins with the simple image of a farmer scattering seed, Jesus uses it to invite us to look beyond what is happening around us and examine what is happening internally. As the seed of God's Word is scattered, we will discover that every heart responds differently. Some hearts have grown hard, others are shallow, some are crowded by the worries and pleasures of this world, while others receive the Word with faith and bear lasting fruit.

This parable isn't meant to make us question the power of God's Word, rather it challenges us to honestly examine the condition of our own hearts. Let's invite the Holy Spirit to reveal anything that may be keeping us from deeper communion with Christ and ask Him to cultivate hearts that are soft, surrendered, and fruitful for His Kingdom. Before we ask what kind of soil others might be, may we first be willing to ask, "What is the soil of my own heart?"
